“Mama! …. Mama!” The pleading call interrupts the stillness of night. Groggily I turn, place my feet onto the coldness of the wood floor, then pad silently along the carpeted hallway, my hand pushes open the door into the nursery. Baby is standing in his crib against the railing closest to the door, in his plush wearable duvet, clutching his soft blanky and staring at me expectantly with his huge eyes. I move swiftly towards him and scoop him up in my arms like a little bundle and he lays his beautiful head on my left shoulder, my right hand caressing his silky curls.

My heart bursts with love for him.

We move quietly, as one, towards mama and dada’s room and I place him down on our soft sheets, a smile across his gorgeous little face and sleepy eyes…the joy of having made it into the safety of mama and dada’s bed, showing on his beautiful features. I remove his wearable duvet so he won’t overheat, he clutches his blanky and then rolls on his side allowing me to snuggle into him, his tiny chunky toesies only reaching my belly. He pads his feet delicately into my belly and thighs when I pull them up, getting comfy, like a puppy settling down to sleep. Within minutes he’s fast asleep again, in the sleepy comfort of mama’s snuggle. If we’re lucky, another set of feet will come padding down the hallway at some stage during the night and even luckier if two sets come padding. A full bed, full hearts, warm snuggles.
